THESIS 1:
The bioeconomy needs to be raised as the driver for sustainable European competitiveness
This can best be achieved by the following activities:
1. Global criteria for a sustainable bioeconomy sector (e.g. sustainability and product standards)
2. International commitments on global key targets and measures
3. Promoting biomass-based new products and energy
4. Fasten the utilization of best available technologies (BAT), knowledge and practices
and four adtivities more
THESIS 2:
Education is a key measure for raising awareness of bioeconomy opportunities which -combined with an understanding of customer needs – boosts innovations
This can best be achieved by the following activities:
1. Strengthen academic-industry (public – private) partnership in research and education
2. Develop funding tools for SMEs for demonstration of new technology

The 2nd Koli Forum took place on 14th-16th September 2011 in the Koli National Park in Finland. The biennial Forum is providing a forward-looking, informal discussion platform for European leaders to produce common views and proposals for the management of natural resources to the European Commission, the UN Climate Conference in South Africa 2011 and further the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro 2012.
