I am pleased to have the chance here to let you know how preparations for the Koli Forum 2011 are progressing. We have got off to an excellent start by obtaining wide participation of opinion-leaders in the Koli Forum.
A large number of organisations from industry, the European Union, NGOs and others have given their support to the second Koli Forum to be held from 14 - 16 September 2011. Thank you for your support so far, and we would be grateful if you would help to elaborate the Koli Theses by participating in the online Forum (Sitra) survey.

The increasingly important role of forest industries
Kari Jordan, President and CEO of the Metsäliitto Group and Chairman of the Board of the Finnish Forest Industries Federation strongly recommends participation in the Koli Forum:
”For the modern, bio-economy oriented society, the development of forest industry built on renewable forest resources is assuming an increasingly important role. This calls for comprehensive international dialogue to identify common values and goals, and the Koli Forum provides an excellent platform for this discussion.”
Teresa Presas, CEPI, comes to Koli
Teresa Presas, President of International Council of Forest and Paper Associations will attend the Koli Forum. She has been the managing director of CEPI, the Confederation of European Paper Industries since 2003 and president of the International Council for Forest and Paper Associations since 2006.
EuropaBio will be present
Nathalie Moll, the Secretary General of EuropaBio, has also confirmed her participation in the Koli Forum.
WWF Global Climate and Energy – initiative leader Samantha Smith
Samantha Smith Leader, Global Climate and Energy Initiative at WWF International, will participate in the Koli Forum.
New ideas needed for EU 2020 strategy
In the Koli Forum Media conference on Thursday 26 May, Eikka Kosonen, Head of European Commission Representation in Finland underlined the importance of the Koli Forum to the EU Commission's EU 2020 strategy initiative. For the implementation of the EU 2020 strategy it is crucially important that industry, political decision-makers, NGOs and the world´s top scientists have a Koli Forum-type discussion platform to put forward joint suggestions and new ideas on how to reach strategy goals and to discuss how the effects of different scenarios might relate to the rest of the world.

World Resources Forum invites participants to Davos
The Koli Forum and the World Resources Forum (WRF) are working together. Messages from the Koli Forum will be presented at WRF by Koli Forum Secretary General, Professor Liisa Tahvanainen. Koli Forum participants can now register for the World Resources Forum (WRF) 2011. It will be held in Davos, Switzerland, from 19-21September.

Luncheon Seminar in Brussels, EU Parliament, on 23 June
Koli Forum brings together eminent decision-makers at a luncheon seminar in Brussels on 23 June. The main speakers are Ms Teresa Presas, managing director of CEPI and Mr Pekka Pesonen, secretary general of Copa-Cogeca. Discussions will form part of the preparations for the Koli Forum.
